Well... here is Proxima Nova "Alt" series (originals)...

The "Alt" version is just for non-OT-aware applications, such as MS Word... so that various alternate characters can be accessed...

 

Have no idea about the difference between originals and typekit version, though...

I think the alt means it has alternative glyphs, check the lowercase a for example..
